Community Care
Community care is a mutual and intentional investment in taking care of each other in new and beautiful ways. As Community Care Practitioners, we are devoted to the processes of unlearning, relearning, and interrogating our practices as we give back what has been given to us, receive care, and create what we want to see in the world.

THRIVE’s Community Care Model
THRIVE sustains our free support services by using a community care model (pictured above) that encompasses the needs and gifts of our administrators, our team, our community members, and our patrons.
- The volume and specificity of need among our community members means that we must always intentionally balance community need with: (1) a determined passion for our team and communities, (2) administrators who are multiply marginalized and need outside work in addition to leading THRIVE, (3) fundraising for operational expenses, (4) dynamic team building (5) logistics of consistently staffing our support services and providing non-carceral crisis intervention, and (6) accessible resource development.
If you are dedicated to community care and can support us in any of the following ways, we would love to have you help us THRIVE!
Funding
As a fully grassroots, volunteer-led organization with a small but mighty team, THRIVE has a revenue sharing model with our partners at Stronger U, whereby Stronger U provides the primary infrastructure and operational management, professional development programs, non-carceral practitioner coaching, educational materials and portions of our operational funding. The rest of our funding is provided by community members’ donations and patrons who purchase merchandise and services.
Professional development
We believe in increasing the knowledge and skill of Non-Carceral Community Care Practitioners and enhancing non-carceral support in multiply marginalized communities. Finally, we envision a world with greater representation of multiply marginalized individuals in leadership positions in their chosen fields. As such, we are dedicated to equipping our team of volunteers and Community Care Practitioners with invaluable skills through hundreds of hours of education, coaching, and personalized development.
Skill Sharing
Community members, volunteers, and Community Care Practitioners reinvest their skills through a variety of projects and services. We are able to keep supporting community members because our team mutually commits to reciprocal skill sharing.
Mentorship
Community Care Practitioners all reinvest by mentoring new trainees, allowing for greater continuity and capacity building in our services. Our educational programs are all designed with leadership training and skills aspects that help practitioners to become confident community leaders, one small step at a time.
Educational Outreach
In addition to a variety of ongoing educational opportunities for our team, we partner with Stronger U to provide numerous training programs and workshops for our community members. We also expand dialogue with community members through educational outreach in our social media, newsletters, advocacy work, and beyond!
Fostered Community
Our programs, services, and community engagement are all designed to anchor people within community who reciprocally value and dimensionally humanize them. Too often, multiply marginalized people are ostracized from community and taught that they will never belong. We seek to change that by dedicating ourselves to fostered community. You belong here! Resource Sharing
Multiply marginalized communities suffer from far too many resource gaps. We and our community members are dedicated to finding, vetting, sharing, and creating relevant resources that help to close those gaps.
